The diverse glacial geology and the variety of rocks are staggering in this region. As an old geologist, I believe the Leelanau Peninsula and the Sleeping Bear Dunes region are some of the most beautiful and scenic areas on the entire planet.

About Thomas H. Hooker

Thomas grew up in western Pennsylvania; he currently lives in Fort Worth, Texas and spends summer and fall months at his home in Northport, Michigan. He and his wife, Kristen, appreciate splitting time between their homes. A retired Chemist and Geologist, Thomas has a BS in Geology from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Thomas is an accomplished songwriter who enjoys playing acoustic guitar.

Have you ever marveled at the beautiful scenery on the Leelanau Peninsula and wondered what events helped fashion the dunes, the water, and the topography?

Imagine a mile-high mountain of ice, rising in the foreground along the horizon; it is majestic and alive with movement and activity in it and all around it. During the last Ice Age, early man was certainly alive and evolving.
